Jingl tlantic Dermatology ooo you're looking good! Dr. Cran elcome to Atlantic Dermatology. I'm Dr. Crane, a dermatologist with Atlantic Dermatology. I'm here to talk about acne. Acne is a common problem, many people have it or many people have suffered with it in the past. It often kicks up in the early years during puberty, hormones will make it flare many a times, and acne is basically clogged pores. You could have the clogged pores on your face, chest, back, all over your body. If you're having a tough time with acne, there are many treatments out there. Topical prescription medications that are used, topical antibiotics like erythromycin, clindamycin. There are topical benzoyl peroxides that have been used for many years and those are very helpful. And there's Retin-A and vitamin A derivatives that are used, so we have lots of topical treatments. Now if that's not enough, sometimes an oral antibiotic will be added. Nicomide is a vitamin B derivative, and it actually acts as an anti-inflammatory, so you could take a nicomide every morning and that helps keep the redness down. So many a times you might have the topicals combined with the nicomide pill by mouth, and if that's still not enough, then often an antibiotic such as doxycycline or something in the tetracycline family will be added in the evening. If all that fails, then Acutane is often a miracle drug. And Acutane is a medication, it's a vitamin A derivative, you take it for about four months or so, and after about four months of getting the acutane into your system, the acne is often gone, for the rest of your life. So if you're having a tough time with acne, don't feel as if you have to suffer with it; look for treatment options and talk with your dermatologist. Jingl tlantic Dermatology ooo you're looking good!
