Is It Ok to Use Different Skincare Brands at the Same Time [DermTV.com Epi #299]

Viewers and patients both ask if all of the skincare products they're using must come from the same company, or be the same brand. Well certainly... many skincare lines suggest that you should only use their products, and obviously, that’s done at least in part, for marketing purposes. The reason though it may make sense is because you know that all of the different products from that company are compatible with each other, assuming the company has tested them. But even so, it’s still not necessary to exclusively use only one company’s products. I’ve had my own skincare line for my patients for more than 11 years, and I’ve never told them that they couldn’t use other brand skincare products mixed with mine. So even though using all products from the same brand assures compatibility, that doesn’t mean that different products from different brands won’t be compatible, or won’t work with each other. So, there's nothing wrong with using different skincare products from as many different skincare companies or brands as you’d like, as long as two conditions are met. The first is, the product has to be appropriate for your oil and water skin type. And, the second is, you have to like the way the product feels on your skin, because if you don’t love the way your skincare products feel, then you’re just not going to use them... Remember, skincare products don’t work in the bottle… they only work on your skin!
